Achenmarsch Tiefenbachklamm circular route
Beautiful circular hike along the Brandenberger Ache through the impressive Tiefenbachklamm continuing to Brandenberg and return via the "old" Brandenberger Straße to Kramsach.
The Achenmarsch starts at the large parking lot of the former Sonnwendjochbahn in Kramsach. We hike a short stretch along Aschauer Straße towards Brandenberg and turn left at the first opportunity (after about 600 m) onto a forest road. This path runs parallel to Aschauer Straße to the entrance of the Tiefenbachklamm. Walking time to the gorge entrance about 50 minutes (4 km).
From the entrance to Tiefenbachklamm we hike over forest ground a bit directly along the Ache, but soon the valley narrows. The well-secured, narrow path mostly leads over stone and gravel ground high above the roaring Brandenberger Ache. Particularly impressive in this gorge are the bizarre rock formations. After about 1.2 km you will reach a viewing platform. Far below us, the water has very little space left in the narrow gorge. The further path crosses the Ache three times. The bridges are particularly suitable for watching canoeists. Suddenly the valley opens and you reach a meadow. Here is the snack station Tiefenbachklamm. For this section, another 90 minutes walking time should be planned.
The circular hike now leads upwards via the narrow asphalt road to Brandenberg. After about 1 km and 20 minutes walking time we turn right. At the Rinnergschwendt farms a small forest path leads further 20 minutes upwards towards Brandenberg (Markstein farms).
From Markstein we continue along the right side of the road until after a few minutes' walk we reach the "Old Country Road Markstein-Audörfl". Follow the sign Achenmarsch direction Kramsach. After reaching the Brandenberger state road, cross it and after about 100 m turn left onto the "Old Path". After about 3 km and 1 hour walking time we reach a fork in the path. We take the upper path. After another 2 km and about 45 minutes walking time we reach a plateau above Frauensee. Now turn right and walk over a field path towards the Mariathal Basilica. There we cross the Brandenberger Ache via the beautiful pedestrian bridge and walk the last 300 meters back to the parking lot.
Use the catering option at the Gasthaus Mariathal or in the lift pub at the parking lot.
