Tiefenbach Gorge (Tiefenbachklamm)

Current information
From 12 to 23 May 2025, the access road to Tiefenbach Gorge from Kramsach will be renovated and given a new asphalt surface - an important step towards greater safety and comfort in the future. During this time, the gorge can only be reached on foot via alternative routes: either from the Sonnwendjochbahn car park (15 km in total, 5 h walk) or from Brandenberg Dorf (Brandenberg Kirche bus stop) with the return route via the gorge (10 km in total, 3.5 h walk).
Tip: The road to the Tiefenbachklamm snack station (from Brandenberg Dorf) is single-lane and not recommended - please be aware of the limited parking options.
Off on a gorge adventure
The Tiefenbach Gorge lies between Kramsach and Brandenberg. The turquoise-green waters, the bizarre rock formations and the magnificent view from the viewing platform: all this makes the Tiefenbach Gorge one of the most popular excursion destinations. For many, the easy hike along the Brandenberg Stream is one of the most beautiful nature experiences in the holiday region.
Due to safety reasons, the gorges are not accessible in winter (closed from 08.11.2024 until 30.04.2025) and in summer on days with heavy rain.

Hiking in the Tiefenbach Gorge
You will see: A hike through the Tiefenbachklamm gorge is highly recommended, especially on hot days.
You hike on the well-secured Triftsteig trail through the impressive Tiefenbachklamm gorge in Brandenberg, most of the time on stone and gravel ground high above the roaring Brandenberg Stream. The bizarre rock formations in this gorge are particularly impressive.
After about 1,5 km you reach a viewing platform. Deep below, the water has very little space in the narrow gorge. The rest of the trail crosses the Ache three times. The bridges are particularly suitable for observing the kayakers in the Ache.
Hut "Jausenstation Tiefenbachklamm"After about 4 kilometres, the valley suddenly opens up and you reach a meadow, where the Jausenstation Tiefenbachklamm invites you to take an enjoyable rest.
The walking time from the beginning to the end of the Tiefenbach Gorge is approx. 1.5 hours. Either choose the same route back (recommended) or follow the path to the left to the Jausenstation Stegerstall approx. 40 minutes (bus stop back to the car park) or take the path to the right leading to the church in Brandenberg (bus stop back to Kramsach).
The car park and the hike through the gorge are free of charge!
