KulTour Kramsach
With this route you can explore the most interesting art and culture facilities and sights in Kramsach in one day and combine it with an easy hike. You will be amazed at what appears in such a small space. If you still want "MORE," we recommend a visit to the Museum Tiroler Bauernhöfe - the largest open-air museum in Tyrol.
Start at Kramsach/Achenrain bus stop (bus) OR Sonnwendjoch parking lot (car + bike)
Start at the former Sonnwendjoch cable car parking lot downhill towards the tennis hall (Länd 68). Past the tennis hall, you will see a yellow house with a steep roof on the right at the intersection to Brandenberg. In this yellow house is the “Troadkasten” (Achenrain 17). Walking time from the parking lot to the Troadkasten is approximately 10 minutes.
Start at Achenrain bus stop - the Troadkasten (Achenrain 17) is in the direction of Brandenberger Straße. At the intersection that goes slightly left, you need to turn. The Troadkasten is in a yellow house on the left side and not to be missed. Walking time about 2 minutes (220 meters). An exhibition venue for contemporary international art in sculpture, objects, and installations. After visiting the Troadkasten (visit duration about 45 minutes), continue towards Brandenberg. On the left side, you will come across a beautiful wooden bridge over the Brandenberger Ache. Until 1966, the Brandenberger log rafting, one of the largest rafting facilities in Central Europe, was operated here. Walking time about 3 minutes (250 meters).
After passing the wooden bridge, continue towards Brandenberg. On the left is a turnoff towards Mariathal; if you follow this road, you will find the Minor Basilica Mariathal. The church was elevated to a basilica minor by Pope Benedict XVI in 2008. The Catholic pilgrimage church impresses with its baroque architecture. Walking time about 10 minutes (800 meters).
After visiting the basilica (visit duration about 20 minutes), continue towards the sculpture park. Stay on this side of the Ache and follow the path through the forest. After about 300 meters, you will find a bridge on the left; go straight ahead through the forest to reach the sculpture park. On the 8,000 sqm exhibition site, the large sculptures by Gironcoli student Alois Schild appear like strange beings amidst untouched nature. Walking time about 10 minutes (700 meters).
After visiting the sculpture park (visit duration with enjoying the landscape and swimming fun in the Brandenberger Ache about 1 hour), walk the short way back to the aforementioned wooden bridge. Cross the bridge over the Brandenberger Ache. To get to Kloster Hilaribergl, after the bridge, turn left towards the lift parking lot. After the inn Liftstüberl, at the end of the gravel parking lot, a path leads into the forest. Follow the fitness mile to Kloster Hilaribergl. In 1689, a Carmelite founded a hermitage with the chapel Maria on the Carmel. The pilgrimage church was modified in 1746 and rebuilt in 1910. Walking time about 35 minutes (2.1 km).
If you continue along the forest trail, simply follow hiking trail no. 7 towards Hagau. The path ends right behind the Funny Cemetery / museum cemetery Kramsach (Funny Cemetery). Over 100 grave crosses with curious and cheerful inscriptions. However, no one is buried here. The crosses come from the collection of stonemason and saw tooth smith Hans Guggenberger. You will also find a series of pictures on the “Dance of Death” and the “World Peace Cross” by Gotthilf Fischer. Walking time about 25 minutes (1.5 km).
Alternatively, you can also take the bus. Line 4115 runs from Kramsach Sonnwendjochbahn to Kramsach Hagau. From there, a 2-minute walk to the museum cemetery.
Return:
On foot - for the return trip you can either take the same route via Kloster Hilaribergl/fitness mile back to the Sonnwendjoch cable car parking lot or return from the Funny Cemetery along the road towards the village, turn left at the roundabout towards Sonnwendjoch cable car.
