KulTour - Chapels in Münster

As early as 600, Münster was its own parish, and in the 7th century, a monastery stood on the present site of the parish church, which was probably used by Irish-Scottish monks for missionary work. The name Münster can be derived from the Latin word "monasterium" (monastery).

Starting from the village center, we take a leisurely loop around the entire area of Münster and pass by several chapels.

We start the KulTour at the parish church Maria Himmelfahrt and walk a few meters further to the cemetery chapel, which was built in 1874. Along the hiking trail R1 we come to the "Asten Chapel." We then continue along the trail to the district Grünsbach. Here we can decide whether to take trail no. 20 (in the direction of Bayreuther Hut). On this trail, there is a junction on the right side to the Kniepass Chapel, located at 1096 m above sea level. This chapel is a Marian chapel and was built between 1724 and 1727, renovated and newly consecrated in 1928. The last section to the Kniepass Chapel is quite narrow – please be careful. We then take the same path (or the marked shortcut) back down to the hiking trail toward Grünsbach. Here we hike southwards on trail R1 to the Habach Chapel. Further westwards on trail R1, we pass the Hofer Chapel a bit past the REHA center. It is dedicated to Jesus Christ and was built in the 17th century. We continue on the trail to the Hauser Chapel. Then the trail R1 leads towards the forest, past horse paddocks to the “Grünangerl Chapel.” From here, the path follows part of the Way of the Cross back to the village center of Münster.
