Kaiserklamm - Erzherzog Johann Klause
Exciting gorge hike with natural experience
The start is at the Kaiserhaus. About 300 m after the inn begins the gorge hike. Along the narrow but well-secured timber rafting path, it goes over footbridges and a stone tunnel through the Kaiserklamm.
Then the water calms down and a unique natural landscape opens up. We stay heading downstream on the left bank and enjoy the beautiful, soft forest and meadow ground. According to a study by the Federal Forests, there is a hotspot with 824 butterfly species in the Brandenberg valley. Many of them frolic on the natural meadow ground.
At the next bridge we change sides of the stream and hike along the forest road to the Erzherzog-Johann-Klause. Here the impressive timber rafting basin can still be seen, from where the wood was rafted to Kramsach.
Return either via the same route or stay on the forest road until shortly before the gorge, here change sides of the stream and continue along the forest road to the Kaiserhaus.

Equipment | Sturdy footwear, surefootedness and are absolutely necessary. Gorges also always pose high alpine dangers in the valley area. In bad weather we recommend avoiding gorge hikes. For children we offer climbing harnesses with safety lines on deposit (at the Gasthof Kaiserhaus Brandenberg or at Sport Ossi in Kramsach). Hiking with dogs through the Kaiserklamm and Tiefenbachklamm is not recommended due to the steel bridges with grate flooring (especially not feasible for small dogs). The gorge is closed for safety reasons on heavy rain days as well as in winter. Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing |
