Historic town of Rattenberg

Rattenberg - Austria's Smallest Historical Town:

With a surface area of 11 hectares and just 400 inhabitants Rattenberg is Austria´s smallest historical town. The medieval pedestrian zone is dominated by the unique displays of glass craft in the numerous shops.

Our favorite place:

Tyrol's only walkable church tower in the Augustiner Museum.

Visit the glass shops and watch the craftsmen at work. The best view of the city can be enjoyed from the castle ruins on the Schlossberg and the walkable church tower in the Augustiner Museum. The Augustinian monastery houses one of Tyrol's leading museums. With the annual Schlossberg plays taking place in Rattenberg and the authentic Rattenberg Advent, the town by the Inn is rightly the cultural center of the region.

Excursion Tips:

  • The town itself is already a sight to behold. Stroll through the medieval 200 m long pedestrian zone and admire the beautiful houses of Rattenberg. By the way, the best view of the city and the roofs of Rattenberg is from the castle ruins.
  • In summer, tourists and locals flock to the pedestrian zone to visit museums, churches, or simply enjoy a good cake in one of the patisseries. During the Advent season, the town shines in candlelight. The Rattenberg Advent revives memories of Christmas as it once was at the open fire pits.
