KulTour - Castle trail Alpbachtal in winter
Leisurely circular walk starting in Rattenberg, the smallest town in Austria. It continues with many impressions of old castles, palaces, and the Matzenpark.
Starting from the Rattenberg parking lot East/P4, you take a leisurely walk through Rattenberg - the smallest town in Austria. At the western end of Rattenberg, the path leads towards Brixlegg to the railway underpass and a stretch along the B171 to the Wolf Chapel. Here turn left and go straight into the center of Brixlegg. Cross the Alpbach state road and pass by Sigwart’s Tyrolean wine taverns, then walk a bit along the B171 again to the entrance of the Matzenpark.
The beautiful avenue leads into the unique nature park. The picturesque castle park is one of the most beautiful and valuable cultural landscapes in Tyrol. Enjoy the view of the two ponds, the Lion Pond and the Carp Pond, as well as Lipperheide Castle and the grand Matzen Castle.
Past the restaurant Gut Matzen, the walk goes by the forest playground and the avenue back to the entrance gate of the Matzenpark. Cross the village federal road and follow the path straight towards the Inn bike path. This leads directly back to Rattenberg.
Note: including visits and stops, the walking time extends to about 3 hours
